Kyoto Metro System

The Kyoto Municipal Subway is the metro service in Kyoto Japan.  It is currently comprise of two lines:

1. Karasuma Line (14 km line with 15 stations running north/south)
2. Tozai Line (11 km line with 17 stations running east/west)

The two subway lines intersect at the Karasuma Oike Station in central Kyoto.

Although the metro is quick, clean and inexpensive, it does not run near most of Kyoto's most famous shrines and temples.  They are located in East Kyoto and West Kyoto.

Visitors will consequently need to take public buses to reach many of the city's top tourist destinations.
