Central Kyoto is the commercial and business district of the city.  The Kyoto Tower, Imperial Palace and Higashi Hongan-ji Temple are located in this area.

Most of Kyoto's temples and shrines, however, are situated in the foothills of Eastern and Western Kyoto.
