Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The Kiyomizu-dera Temple is the oldest and probably the most well-known temple in Kyoto.  Perched on a hilltop overlooking Kyoto, the temple was built over 1000 years ago.

For centuries, pilgrims have climbed to pray at the temple and drink from its sacred spring.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple was assembled without using a single nail. The Deva Gate is the most impressive of the three gates that lead to the temple.

The temple is located in the Higashiyama district of eastern Kyoto.
