Higashi Hongan-ji

The Higashi and Nishi Hongan-ji Temples are two large Buddhist temples located in central Kyoto.

The Higashi Hongan-ji Temple was built in the early 1600s and is the head temple of the Otani faction of Jodo-shin Buddhism.

There are two main halls: the Goeido Hall and the Amidado Hall.  The garden is open to the public.

Higashi Hongan-ji Temple can be found directly north of the Kyoto Tower, and just a short walk from Kyoto Station.
